Overpass query example

Wheelchair-accessible public toilets

Combine two tags to find accessible facilities. Example: wheelchair-accessible toilets in Barcelona.

To combine conditions, write them one after another: every condition must match. Here: toilets that are also marked wheelchair-accessible.

The query

[out:json][timeout:60];
area["name"="Barcelona"]["admin_level"="8"]->.a;
nwr["amenity"="toilets"]["wheelchair"="yes"](area.a);
out center;

Run it

Running the query…

Live result from overpass.ch, cached for up to 12 hours. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).

How it works

  1. ["amenity"="toilets"]["wheelchair"="yes"] requires both tags (a logical AND).
  2. wheelchair can also be limited or no, or missing altogether.

Variations

  • Free toilets only: add ["fee"="no"].
  • Find toilets with unknown accessibility: ["amenity"="toilets"][!"wheelchair"].

Run it from your code

curl https://api.overpass.ch/v1/YOUR_API_KEY/interpreter \
  --data-urlencode 'data@query.overpassql'

Save the query as query.overpassql. It works the same in Overpass Turbo, QGIS and JOSM.
