What the map shows
- The sea coloured by depth, from pale blue at the coast to deep blue in the ocean, with the sea floor shaded.
- Depth contours with labels: 200 m and every 1,000 m on the overview, then 20, 50, 100 and 500 m, and from zoom 10 also 5 and 10 m.
- Lighthouses and lights, lateral and cardinal buoys and beacons in their colours, danger, safe water and special marks, wrecks, rocks and moorings. Lights show their character closer in, such as
Fl(2) R 6s. - Harbours, marinas and anchorages, ferry routes, the coastline, and protected areas as outlines.
- The land in light colours, with roads and places, so that the sea stands out.
Lighthouses, harbours, marinas and anchorages show from zoom 9, buoys and beacons from zoom 11. The sea marks come from the seamark:* tags of OpenStreetMap, the tags OpenSeaMap uses, through our Overpass server; a tile is at most 7 days old. The depths come from the GEBCO grid.

- The style needs MapLibre GL JS 5.6 or later, for the
color-relieflayer that colours the sea. ?lang=frsets the label language; 41 languages are available.- Give the
#mapelement a height in your stylesheet.
To add depths and sea marks to a style of your own, see the guide a nautical map with depths and sea marks. Endpoints and fields are in the documentation.
Not for navigation
- The depths come from GEBCO, a worldwide grid of about 460 m. They show where the sea is deep or shallow, and miss channels, sandbanks and rocks smaller than the grid.
- Sea marks in OpenStreetMap can be missing, out of date or misplaced, and buoys are moved. On board, use official charts and notices to mariners.
- The credit in the corner of the map says “not for navigation”, together with the GEBCO credit. Keep it visible.
- Every tile counts once: vector tiles, depths, depth contours and sea marks. The first view, 1280 × 720 pixels at zoom 13, loads about 20 tiles.
